Springfield, Virginia: Bangladeshi Tahmina Akhter, 39, died after being hit by a car in Fairfax County, Virginia, on Friday, Fairfax County authorities said. Tahmina Akhter, 39, of Springfield, was crossing Backlick Road near Villa Park Road outside a crosswalk in Springfield around 4:15 p.m. last Friday when she was hit by a 2019 Audi S5 heading south on Backlick Road, police said in a statement. .
Tahmina Akhter was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died two days later. Fairfax County authorities also said that the driver of the Audi that hit Tahmina Akhtar remained at the scene after the accident and was assisting police and detectives.
Speed and alcohol were not the cause of the collision, police said. Eight pedestrians have been killed in Fairfax County this year, police said. Authorities, however, requested that anyone with any information about the accident be contacted at 603-260-0543.
About 10 months ago, Tahmina Akhtar came from Bangladesh and started living in Virginia with her husband and two daughters. On the day of the incident, Tahmina died at Fairfax Hospital two days after being hit by a car on her way home from work at a McDonald’s restaurant. He was buried at Ama Cemetery on Tuesday, March 3, after the Janazah prayers at noon.
