Nobokontho Desk: The Bangladeshi Assistant High Commission in Agartala recently came under attack by a group allegedly led by the “Hindu Sangharsh Samiti”. Protesters forcibly entered the premises, damaged property, and desecrated the Bangladeshi national flag. This premeditated incident occurred amidst visible inaction from local law enforcement, raising serious concerns about the safety of Bangladeshi diplomatic staff.
The demonstration was reportedly in response to the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a representative of the “Bangladesh Sanatani Jagarani Jot” by Bangladeshi authorities. Video evidence from the scene shows protesters submitting a memorandum after storming the premises.
Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the Indian authorities’ lack of immediate protective action during the attack. In solidarity, protests erupted in Bangladesh, with student groups and activists demanding accountability and swift action.
Following the incident, India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret and pledged to enhance security at all Bangladeshi missions across India, deploying additional forces and restricting unauthorized gatherings near these premises. The measures aim to prevent similar events and reassure diplomatic personnel of their safety.
Protests and condemnation have also erupted in Bangladesh, with students and activists organizing demonstrations in solidarity with the attacked mission.
